What does the disulfiram suture procedure look like at Zeus Rehab?
1: Medical history
Before starting the procedure, we conduct a detailed interview with you in order to learn as much as possible about your problem and your relationship with alcohol, your health, past illnesses, and medications you are taking. We test you with a breathalyzer to make sure that you are sober and the medicine you are taking will not react with alcohol. We familiarize you with the operation of the preparation and inform you about possible side effects. During this time, you sign consent for the procedure and ask questions to dispel any doubts about the procedure.
2: Disulfiram Implementation
The disulfiram suturing procedure takes place in a specialist surgical room. At the beginning, you receive local anesthesia, thanks to which the procedure is painless and much more comfortable. The doctor applies the drug to the buttock under the fascia – this is the most effective method of implementing an alcohol insert. The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes. The insert starts working immediately after leaving the office and its effect lasts up to 12 months.
3: Postoperative recovery
You will need to take antibiotics for a few days after you leave our clinic. At the same time, we recommend that you refrain from increased physical activity, swimming pool, sauna, solarium, and long baths for up to 10 days. All this to limit the occurrence of complications to a minimum. If you experience any side effects, you should contact us immediately so that we can respond as quickly as possible. After about 14 days, you visit us again to remove the stitches and control the treated area. Of course, immediately after the procedure, you undertake to maintain abstinence from alcohol.
