Depression Treatment - Inpatient Programme

Depression treatment at Zeus Detox & Rehab is provided on an inpatient basis under psychiatric and medical supervision, for patients requiring structured clinical care. The treatment process encompasses diagnostics, symptom stabilisation and individually tailored therapeutic interventions.

As part of our mental health treatment programme, we offer an individualised inpatient pathway for patients with depression. Zeus Detox & Rehab is located near Warsaw, Poland, and welcomes international patients.

What is depression in clinical terms

Depression is a psychiatric disorder with a documented biological, psychological and social basis. It is not a sign of weakness or a transient low mood, but a medical condition that can significantly affect emotional, cognitive and somatic functioning. In the course of depression, regulation of mood, energy, motivation and the capacity for pleasure is disrupted. Without appropriate treatment, symptoms may become entrenched or deepen.

When urgent medical attention is required

Urgent medical attention is required if a psychological crisis arises involving suicidal ideation, intent to self-harm, loss of contact with reality, symptoms of acute psychosis, severe disorientation, rapid escalation of anxiety or agitation, aggressive behaviour disproportionate to the situation, or a state in which the patient is unable to ensure their own safety. In any life-threatening or health-threatening situation, emergency services should be contacted immediately by calling 112 or 999.

Symptoms of depression

Symptoms of depression may vary in severity and include:

  • persistently low mood or a sense of emptiness
  • loss of interest and the ability to experience pleasure
  • fatigue and diminished energy
  • sleep and appetite disturbances
  • difficulty concentrating and making decisions
  • feelings of guilt, worthlessness or hopelessness
  • psychomotor retardation or restlessness
  • passive or active suicidal ideation

Symptoms may also appear in a masked form, with predominantly somatic complaints.

Types and course of depression

Depression may take various clinical forms including unipolar depression, recurrent depression, depressive episode in the course of bipolar disorder, depression with anxious features, treatment-resistant depression, and depression co-occurring with addictions or other psychiatric disorders. Identifying the type of depression is of key importance for selecting the appropriate treatment.

Depression treatment at Zeus Detox & Rehab

Depression treatment is delivered in a confidential inpatient care model, with an emphasis on patient psychological safety, psychiatric responsibility, individual treatment planning and continuity and structure of the therapeutic process. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and medical staff.

Integrated depression treatment model

Depression treatment is carried out within a comprehensive mental health treatment framework and may include, depending on clinical indications: psychiatric care and monitoring of mental state, pharmacotherapy where justified, individual psychotherapy, work on emotional and cognitive regulation, psychoeducation, support in rebuilding functioning, and supplementary interventions as a supporting element. The aim of treatment is stabilisation of mental state and preparation for further recovery.

Stages of depression treatment

Stage 1: Stabilisation and safety

Focuses on reducing symptom severity, improving sleep and restoring basic psychological balance under psychiatric supervision.

Stage 2: Targeted therapy

Encompasses therapeutic work on the mechanisms of depression, thinking patterns, emotional regulation and relational functioning.

Stage 3: Aftercare planning

Focuses on relapse prevention and preparation of a continuation of treatment plan for after the inpatient stay.

When inpatient depression treatment is indicated

Inpatient treatment may be appropriate for individuals who present with severe or persistent depressive symptoms, have not achieved improvement with outpatient treatment, have co-occurring anxiety disorders, addictions or PTSD, show significant disturbances in sleep, appetite or functioning, require intensive psychiatric supervision, or report passive suicidal ideation or significant psychological burden.

A different level of care is required when there is an immediate life-threatening situation requiring acute hospitalisation, or when the primary need is a short-term outpatient consultation. Every decision is preceded by individual clinical assessment.
