What are eating disorders
Eating disorders are serious psychiatric conditions affecting eating patterns, body perception, emotional regulation and physical and social functioning. They do not concern eating behaviours alone - they encompass complex psychological, emotional and biological mechanisms. Left untreated, eating disorders can lead to severe somatic complications, metabolic and hormonal disorders, cardiac complications and an increased risk of depression and suicidal ideation.
When urgent medical attention is required
Urgent medical attention is required if a psychological crisis arises involving suicidal ideation, intent to self-harm, loss of contact with reality, symptoms of acute psychosis, severe disorientation, rapid escalation of anxiety or agitation, aggressive behaviour disproportionate to the situation, or a state in which the patient is unable to ensure their own safety. In any life-threatening or health-threatening situation, emergency services should be contacted immediately by calling 112 or 999.
Eating disorders as a clinical problem
From a clinical perspective, eating disorders are conditions of high complexity requiring a multidisciplinary therapeutic approach. They can occur independently of age, gender or social status. They frequently co-occur with anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, traumatic experiences and other psychiatric disorders or addictions.

Eating disorder treatment at Zeus Detox & Rehab
Treatment is conducted in a confidential inpatient setting, with an emphasis on medical safety, psychological stabilisation and an individual clinical approach. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team comprising physicians, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and medical staff. Every case is preceded by individual clinical qualification.
Stages of eating disorder treatment
Stage 1: Medical and psychological stabilisation
The priority is patient safety, reduction of somatic risk and stabilisation of psychological condition.
Stage 2: Targeted therapy
Intensive psychotherapy targeting the mechanisms of the disorder, emotions and eating-related behaviours. Includes body image work, emotional regulation and trauma-informed approaches where indicated.
Stage 3: Aftercare planning
An individual plan for continuation of treatment and relapse prevention after the inpatient stay is created.
Inpatient treatment focuses on medical stabilisation, mental health assessment and intensive therapeutic work in the acute or advanced phase of the disorder. It does not replace long-term outpatient treatment and does not guarantee specific clinical outcomes. Aftercare planning forms an integral part of the therapeutic process.
When inpatient eating disorder treatment is indicated
Inpatient treatment may be appropriate for individuals with moderate to severe eating disorders, significant health or psychological consequences, co-occurring psychiatric disorders, ineffectiveness of outpatient treatment, or a need for a safe and structured therapeutic environment.
A different form of help may be required when there is an acute life-threatening condition requiring emergency hospitalisation, when the primary need is a short-term outpatient consultation, or when there is no readiness for inpatient treatment. Clinical qualification always precedes admission.
